Cultivation:
Samba Wheat or Godhumai (Tamil), Samba Godhuma(Telugu), Samba Gehoon (Hindi) and Samba Geatamp(Malayalam) is grown mostly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. This wheat is rich in carbohydrates, saturated fats, minerals and fibre.

Recipe: Samba Wheat Haleem
Ingredients:
- Samba Wheat 1/2 cup (125g)soaked overnight
- Mixed daals Moong, Masoor and Chana 1/2 cup
- Chicken or Mutton 200g
- Onion chopped 2 nos
- Tomatoes chopped 2 nos
- Whole cardamom, cinnamon and clove
- Green chilli 1 & Curd & Salt
- Lemon juice & Ginger garlic paste
Procedure:
- Pressure cook wheat and daals with some turmeric powder in three cups water until mushy
- Marinate the meat in curd, salt and spice masalas
- In another cooker heat ghee/oil and sauté onions and add cardamom, clove and cinnamon with coriander/mint leaves and green chillies until golden brown
- Now add ginger/garlic paste, stir and then add the tomatoes
- Saute for a minute until tomatoes become soft, add the marinated meat and stir once more
- After five minutes the oil will separate from the gravy. Now add 2 cups of water and close the pressure cooker
- Cook until meat is done
- Now open both the cookers and mix both the gravy and cooked samba wheat mash
- Use a wooden masher or ladle to stir the mix continuously
- Check and adjust salt and seasoning. Add the lemon juice and check once again
- Boil this mixture until well blended and thick with shredded meat
- Serve hot with slivers of lemon and onions
